• START
  • Step 1 : Get any image that you want to make your splash image3
  • Or, Go to this link to collect splash (.xpm) images à http://schragehome.de/splash/
  • Step 2 : Login as root and go to this grub directory

  • [root@local host root]     # cd (space) /boot /grub
  • Step 3 : Install gimp tool
  • [root@local host root]     # yum (space) –y (space) install (space) gimp*
  • Step 4 : make a new directory as images in this directory
  • [root@local host root]     # mkdir (space) images
  • and then paste or copy your image into the image directory
  • Step 4 : Now, go to this directory and convert image
  • [root@local host root]     # convert (space) myimage.jpg (space) –resize (space) 640*480! (space) – colors (space)
  • 14 (space) – depth (space) 8 (space) myimage.xpm
  • Then gzip it,
  • [root@local host root]     # gzip (space) myimage.xpm
  • This will convert it into myimage.xpm.gz
  • Step 5 : Now, go to grub loader file
  • [root@local host root]     # vim (space) /boot/grub/grub.conf
  • and edit the line –>
  • splashimage=(hd0,0) /grub/splash.xpm.gz             to
  • splashimage=(hd0,0)/grub/images/myimage.xpm.gz
  • Step 6 : Reboot your machine (computer system) and you are done it….:-)
  • Note – If you wan’t to modify some ore features regarding your splash image you can always use gimp tool. 
  • [root@local host root]     # gimp                          <press Enter>
  • Path à Application>Graphics>GIMP
